Got Filk? What is filk?
One way to describe filk is as music parody (a la Weird Al). Another way is to think of your favorite folk song, and then try to sing it out loud in front of your friends. Most of what we call "filk" consists of parodies, SCA songs, folk or Celtic songs, silly songs, as well as whatever songs people want to share. Really narrows it down, doesn't it?
We'll have lots of filking at Demicon, mostly run in a "Bardic circle" format. In this everyone gets a turn where you can choose to sing a song yourself, call a tune for the group to sing, or pass your turn. This way everyone gets to participate and good times will be had by all!
In addition, we'll be having fun with "insty filk"! Come share your ideas, rhymes and creative energies in helping us write a song parody in about an hour.
Contact filk(at)demicon.org if you have any questions or suggestions. |
