Ghost of Honor - J.R.R. Tolkien
Known for writing such amazing works as Smith of Wootton Major, Farmer Giles of Ham, and
Roverandom, J.R.R. Tolkein made a tremendous impact on the modern epic fantasy genre.
He lived from 1892 to 1973 and has won an amazing list of awards (Mythopoeic, International Fantasy, Hugo and
Locus Poll awards, just to name a few). Oh yeah, he also wrote a few books about this place called Middle
Earth, I think he called it Lord of the Rings or something like that. You may have seen a movie (or
three).
At DemiCon, we have a tradition of nominating a Ghost of Honor to compliment our Guests of Honor. The Ghost of
Honor title both honors someone whose life has made an important mark on fandom as well as serve as a theme for
some events. This year's Ghost of Honor being J.R.R. Tolkein, you can expect several events relating to
the Lord of the Rings (and associated books) series. With a slate of programming items ranging from
contests to costuming to discussion groups, there is bound to be something for everyone.
