Since DemiCon I there has always been filking, sometimes in attendees' rooms, sometimes in the hallways and sometimes as regularly scheduled events. This year will be no exception. DemiCon attendees can enjoy filking as well as the scheduled music in the music room. This year we will again have Insta-Filk, followed up by Revenge of the Quartermaster, then stay and filk until the sun comes up. Along with the Revenge of the Quartermaster, there will be a Most Outrageous Super Hero Contest. The room will also be available for filk jamming on Saturday after 'TICC After Dark'.

What is Filk music - you ask.

Filk is the music of Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror and other Genre's that fandom is interested in. Filk songs can be about any science fiction or fantasy subject you could imagine. It can be about sci-fi/fantasy stories, TV shows, Movies or characters. There are filk songs about NASA, computers, cats, and about fandom itself. The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) has many filk songs about history, real and imagined, as well as about their own kingdoms and cultures. There are filk songs even about filkers or other filk songs. There is even a filk song about the Definition of Filk.

The music of filk can be parodies (new and usually humorous words that are sung to old tunes) but also filk can be original tunes as well as words.
