Art Show

The DemiCon Art Show is open to all interested artists and allows artists to share their work with our attendees while simultaneously promoting Fantasy and Science Fiction art by helping artists to display and sell their work.

The Art Show is divided in to several categories.

The MAIN DISPLAY area includes original works of art, 3-dimensional art, and single copies of prints of original art. Unless an art piece is marked “NFS – Not For Sale”, our convention attendees may bid on, or buy via quick sale, any pieces in this area. Attendees will also be able to vote for the show’s best amateur artist, professional artist, amateur art piece, and professional piece of art.

The PRINT SHOP area will contain pieces for immediate sale. Pieces in the Print Shop are usually prints or reproductions of published artwork (book covers or magazine illustrations).

The ARTIST WORKSPACE is open to attending artists, who wish to work at the convention, perform demonstrations, and create works of art to auction for charity, share ideas with other artists and anything else that they wish to do. This will be located outside the Art Show itself.

Like many sci-fi & fantasy convention art shows, DemiCon’s show is run entirely by volunteer workers. All con-goers who visit the art show are asked to check their bags and drinks with the Art Show volunteer in order to protect the artists’ work. Volunteers also help hang and organize the displayed artwork.

If you are looking for a quick and easy way to help out, consider signing up to be the Art Show volunteer. It is both fun and easy!

Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Art Show Registration & Rules/Information for Artists

Information for Convention Attendees

If you purchase any art you can pay for and pick it up from the Display Area or from the Auction on Sunday from 10AM to 12PM.

GENERAL SALES INFORMATION

PRINT SHOP sales are handled on a cash-and-carry basis.

All MAIN DISPLAY area pieces with two or more bids, as well as prize-winning art (excluding Not For Sale items), will go to voice auction on Saturday evening. Pieces are then sold to the highest bidder.

If a quick sale price is available for a display area work of art, a buyer may purchase that piece immediately for that price, but only if the piece has received no bids. Artwork that has received even one bid is not sold via quick sale. Unsold art can also be purchased at the quick sale price on Sunday.

Although an art piece receiving no bids may be purchased for the quick sale price at any time, no art will be removed from the Main Display area before the auction Saturday night. Buyers may pick up their quick sale purchases on Sunday. If the buyer will not be attending the Convention on Sunday, they can pick up purchases after the auction Saturday night, if such arrangements have been made in advance with the art show department head.

If you have questions, please contact artshow@demicon.org.

Children’s Activities Room

DemiCon is proud to be a family-friendly convention with a room dedicated to children’s activities.  In addition, the con offers a wide array of opportunities for families to participate together at panels, contests and so much more.

Please be aware that DemiCon’s policies require anyone aged 12 and under to be accompanied by a paid adult at all times while in any of the convention areas. Please do not leave your children unattended.

If you have any programming ideas or questions for our Children’s Programming Department, please contact children@demicon.org.

ConSuite

The ConSuite (aka Hospitality Suite) is on the 5th floor. Follow the signs when you exit the elevator. It is a place to refresh, rest, recharge and find quality banter to stimulate your senses.

The bar is well stocked, homebrew is tapped, and we also offer a small selection of non-alcoholic beverages. If you have suggestions for a particular concoction, be sure to bring your ideas to the ConSuite! We can’t guarantee anything, but we’ll certainly take all requests under consideration.

You can also expect to see such delicacies of the Fhannish world as fresh-popped popcorn, sweets & salty snacks, fruits, veggies, plus a few surprises. Be sure to find your way to the 5th floor from time to time (wearing your con badge, of course). While the companions you’ll find there are consistently delightful, the ConSuite’s yummy selections will vary throughout the day.

If you want to be a ConSuite Collaborator or if you’re feeling particularly generous, we’d be happy to help put that good feeling to use! Drop off your donations of cash or checks at the ConSuite. Everything will go towards making an even better spread, and we’ll let everyone know just how COOL you are!

Please note that the ConSuite will not be accepting donations of food or beverage at the con. If you wish to donate or have questions about sponsoring, please contact consuite@demicon.org.

DEALERS’ ROOM APPLICATION

The DemiCon Dealers’ Room capacity is 28 table spaces. For DemiCon 29 we will be holding a juried selection for our vendors. This means that all prospective dealers will need to submit a Dealers’ Room application to be considered for having a space for vending at DemiCon 29.

Dealer’s tables are $35 per table (strict limit of 3 tables), and a convention membership will be required for worker at your table.

Applications must be received before 11:59 PM Central Time on December 1, 2017.

Please carefully review our DEALER ROOM RULES/GUIDELINES prior to completing the application.

Selections will be made during the first two weeks of December. An email will be sent to each vendor the week of January 1-15 advising if they have been selected or if they are being placed on the waiting list.

Dealers will be required to pay for both convention memberships and their table space before their selection is considered final. The confirmation email you receive in September will include a summary of your application to confirm your information. Once your information has been confirmed you will be contacted with payment details.

If a dealer does not complete their payment or changes their mind about joining us for DemiCon 29 then those table spaces will be offered to those on our waiting list.

If you have any trouble completing your application, please contact dealers@demicon.org.

Gaming Schedule

Tabel X Colorado Room

  • Friday
    • 6PM-10PM        Pathfinder Society: 9-09 Beyond the Halflight Path
      • The sprawling maze of caverns and tunnels beneath the hilltop city of Kaer Maga are home to a host of dangers and mysteries. A dedicated group of guards called the Duskwardens is responsible for protecting Kaer Magans and visitors alike from everything that lurks below. Despite the Duskwardens’ best efforts, the influence of one of the vaults has been spreading on to the streets of Kaer Maga. It falls to a group Pathfinder Society agents to navigate the factions of Kaer Maga to access and strike at the heart of the lurking threat. A Pathfinder Society module for 3rd to 7th level.
  • Saturday
    • 8Am-2PM Pathfinder Society: 9-14 Down the Verdant Path
      • Few dare tread through the ancient groves of the Verduran Forest, and those who do settle in these woodlands tend to stay close to their communities. Mystery and danger rarely deter agents of the Pathfinder Society, however. When the semi-retired Pathfinder Falbin ventured from his home deep in the wood, he came across an unexpected pocket of flourishing growth and summer weather in the middle of the wintery forest. He fears that this disturbance is the work of a cabal of druids whose mayhem the Society ended six years ago. Have the druids returned to wreak havoc, or are other forces at play? Levels 1-5.
    • 2PM-6PM Pathfinder Society: 9-15 The Bloodcove Blockade
      • The Aspis Consortium has poached relics from the Mwangi Expanse for decades, but the organization has recently identified a wealth of rare minerals deep in the Kaava Lands. The biggest catch is that the Society is familiar with this area, and a massive mining operation like the one the Consortium’s planning wouldn’t just disrupt local cultures; it risks unleashing a powerful fiend the Pathfinder Society narrowly kept sealed away. Levels 3-7.
    • 8PM-12AM Pathfinder Society: 9-17 Oath of the Overwatched
      • Deep beneath the Blakros Museum lies a copper gate that no key could open—at least, not from the outside. To the horror of museum curator Nigel Aldain, the gate has begun to writhe and buckle. Whatever lurks beyond it will not remain contained for much longer. Aldain sent an urgent request for aid to Zarta Dralneen, leader of the Dark Archive faction. Dralneen quickly realized that protection would require a divided approach, with some remaining behind to guard Absalom from what pours out and others charging in to deal with the source. With the support of Aldain, Dralneen, and Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin on guard behind them, the PCs rush beyond the twisted portal. Within, they uncover the true reason why the ancient mage Ralzeros made the place beyond the gate so hard to reach. Characters levels 5-9.
  • Sunday
    • 10AM-2PM Pathfinder Society: 9-16 Fallen Family, Broken Name
      • The Goblinblood Wars that ravaged Isger more than a decade ago didn’t just set fire to villages; it destroyed families. Among these was the wealthy Irrica family, all but one who perished during this tumultuous time. Now that Isger’s government has begun declassifying reports, the Pathfinder Society has learned that the Irricas commanded some supernatural force that convinced even the mighty House Thrune to give them space. With these leads now public knowledge, the Society sends the PCs to piece together the broken family’s history and recover this secret weapon before it falls into the wrong hands. Levels 1-5.

Table Y Colorado Room

  • Friday

A D&D 5e AL adventure for 1-4th level characters. Premade characters available.
  • Saturday
    • 11AM-3PM Down the Kobold Hole: Part 1
      • A mad kobold scientist has opened a gateway to another world, filled with wild denizens and evil fey rulers who threaten to invade your world and bring chaos and dark tea parties. (That’s insane, it’s only green tea for you!) You must enter the gateway and find allies to help you make sense of this strange world and find a way to stop an invasion of the realms. A homebrew D&D 5e adventure for 7th level characters. Premade characters available and creation guidelines provided.
    • 5PM-10PM Adventurer’s League: DDAL07-02 Over the Edge
      • In response to a new but as-of-yet-unnamed threat, the factions have called upon adventurers to venture into the jungle in search of a location for a new base of operations. As such, you have been charged with scouting several locations to assess their viability. Surely something so trivial as a scouting mission couldn’t go wrong? A D&D 5e AL adventure for 1-4th level characters, premade characters available.
  • Sunday
    • 10AM-2PM Down the Kobold Hole: Part 2
      • The thrilling conclusion brings your characters directly against the mad faerie court in a strange battle with giant hamsters, rat dragons and horse-sized killer tea cups. Can you and your companions defeat the queen of Cups and save two worlds from the total domination by her forces of chaos? A homebrew D&D 5e adventure for 7th level characters. Premade characters available and creation guidelines provided

If you are or ever have been interested in Carcassonne, please come to watch or participate in our demo of this revered title.
    • 7PM-8PM Dice Forge

    • 12PM-4PM Malifaux
      • Based in an alternate Earth, Malifaux uses gothic, steampunk, and victorian horror with a dose of the wild west to inject fun and depth into the magical lawlessness of a world rife with monsters, necropunks, man-machine hybrids, gunslingers, and powerhungry politicos. In short 6-7 minute rounds, players will be assigned their role in the village, and then try and deduce or bluff their way to their goal until time runs out and the vote is called. Room Parties on the 5th Floor

You can’t have DemiCon without room parties.

If you are new to DemiCon, you might not know what a room party is. On Friday and Saturday nights of the con, some of our attendees will host parties in their own fifth floor rooms (on the same level as the ConSuite).

If you are interested in hosting a party, please sign-up with our Room Party Sign-up form no later than April 1.

Information for Party Hosts

Only rooms in the designated party area of the hotel will be allowed to hold parties. Please let us know if you wish to host a room party so that we can ensure your room will be located on the correct floor.  If you let us know which night you are holding your shin-dig, and the theme you’ve chosen for your revelry, we will post that information on this page.

Room parties are typically assigned to the ConSuite wing of the fifth floor of the hotel.

No room parties will be allowed outside of the designated area.

If you would like to host a room party, please read the below guidelines as well as our Drinking Policy.

GUIDELINES FOR PARTY HOSTS:

The legal drinking age in Iowa is 21.   This means that your birthday must be before May 4, 1997, in order for you to consume alcohol.  Minors caught with alcohol or adults caught serving alcohol to minors need to be aware of the consequences of their actions.  Please drink responsibly and act accordingly.

When posting signage for your party please use blue painters tape and be mindful not to damage the room or its contents.

If you have any issues, questions or concerns during your party, look for the roaming Rangers (identified by the bright yellow/green vests) or the Room Party Department Head.

Please post or otherwise provide information regarding potential allergy issues (nuts, etc.).

Teen Lounge

Sometimes teens just need a place to get away from those pesky parents.  DemiCon has that place for you!  Teens, ages 13 through 18, are welcome to this area to enjoy games, events, conversation, or just hanging around.  The Teen Lounge is located in the hotel’s lower level, next to the Hub at the bottom of the open staircase.

If you have suggestions for activities for the Teen Lounge, or questions, please contact youth@demicon.org.
