Hotel Skywalk (Real information below) Millions of years ago, an ice age swept across the world. You may have heard of it. This killed off many species of animals, and substantially changed the landscape. However, one little critter, Discus macclintocki, also known as the Iowa Pleistocene Snail, survived. It thrived in the wilds of Iowa, growing to the height of snail civilization (which can be determined by their pacifist tendencies and focus on playwriting). However, one day, someone built a city on top it. Tragically, the people who built this city were unaware of the culture that they had endangered, that is, until several years ago. A researcher at Grinnell College was researching these snails, and discovered their advancements. After expressing her concern to the Des Moines city council, it was decided that it was too late to remove the city, but that they could do something about the thousands of snail-steppings that were occuring. Thus, the Des Moines skywalk system was built. The Des Moines skywalk system links many locations throughout downtown Des Moines with a network of clear tunnels. It's kinda like a habitrail for people. Anyway, you can use this skywalk system to get from the hotel to various restaurants or other places of interest. While many of them are closed during the weekend, we do have a list of those that will be open.
