Welcome to DemiCon 31: Legion of DemiCon – “CONtaminated” Online Convention. We are so sad we are not able to see all of our convention family in person this year. It is our hope that by putting on this first ever online version of DemiCon we can provide an opportunity to digitally connect with our friends and have some much needed respite from social distancing.
This web page will serve as your DemiCon 31 “program book” and will guide you through the pre-recorded, live, and interactive programming. When possible we are going to attempt to record live programming to make it available to watch later.
There is an officially-unofficial PDF printable schedule for those that want a hard copy to reference. It is officially-unofficial because it will not be updated on the fly with last minute schedule editions or corrections. This website should be considered your single source of truth. Registration, badges and limited edition “CONtaminated” ribbon
Welcome to at-the-con registration! This is it! DemiCon 31: Legion of DemiCon – “CONtaminated” Online Convention is free for everyone.
We only ask that you please sign-in so that we know you attended. Each person who signs in will receive a virtual ribbon now and a limited edition physical ribbon next year if they attend DemiCon 32.
In order to receive a physical ribbon at DemiCon 32 we will need contact information that we can use to match your DemiCon 31 attendance to your DemiCon 32 registration packet.
Every person who paid for a DemiCon 31 convention membership will have their registration rolled to DemiCon 32 automatically unless you request a refund. If you have a DemiCon 31 membership that you would like to be refunded please complete our refund request form.
It is ok if you do not have a DemiCon 32 membership yet. Whether you have a DemiCon 32 membership already, plan to register online later, or want to wait for at-the-door registration we will make sure you receive your ribbon.
We know a lot of attendees collect their convention badges. With that in mind here is a digital badge that you can download and print at home.

Rules for DemiCon 31: Legion of DemiCon CONtaminated Virtual Convention
- All physical policies for a physical con as well as the harassment policy still apply. See Policies
- Exception is the badge policy. We do encourage you to sign in and download the virtual badge.
- Standard social interactions rules apply.
- Wear appropriate clothes/costume for a family friendly con for visual displays.
- Use language that is appropriate for the particular event. Most events will be family friendly so please keep language to PG-13 or better.

- Turn off your microphone and video when not talking.
- Try not to talk over each other and especially not over the presenter.
- Private chat is recorded by Zoom and can be reviewed to see if it is inappropriate for the convention space. Really! Zoom does save every chat for review.

Convention chat; Join our Discord server
We have created a DMSFFS Discord server where all of our convention family can hang out and chat with each other. This will be a permanent Discord server that will be available moving forward for anyone that wants to get together and chat about DemiCon, DMSFFS, or other shared interests.
Discord describes their service as “the easiest way to communicate over voice, video, and text, whether you’re part of a school club, a nightly gaming group, a worldwide art community, or just a handful of friends that want to hang out.”

Support our featured charity
It is a long standing tradition to select a charity to feature and fundraise for during DemiCon. Traditionally we raise money for the featured charity at our art auction and through other in person activities.
The DemiCon 32 featured charity is Everybody Wins! Iowa. They are an amazing organization whose mission is “To increase children’s success in school and life through one-to-one reading and mentoring experiences with caring volunteers.”

Donate Blood at LifeServe Blood Center
At the 34th World Science Fiction Convention in 1976 author Robert Heinlein organized a blood drive that would become a tradition at many science fiction conventions.
For many years DemiCon has participated in this tradition, inviting the LifeServe Blood Center to join us on Saturday of the convention so that our attendees can make blood donations. Netflix Party
Join in and watch Netflix together while using chat on the side to make comments. This is the one area that is not free in that you need a Netflix account (not free) and Chrome (which is free) on your computer.

Step 1) Use this form to sign-up: https://forms.gle/nPkJG1zV9UnKao9A8. Netflix does not generate the link you will need until right before the party starts so we will use your contact information here to send it to you. Expect to receive the link via email 15 minutes before the party is scheduled to begin.
Step 2) On a desktop or laptop computer download and install Google Chrome if you don’t have it already. You can download it here: https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/.
Step 3) Install the Chrome Netflix Party browser extension from https://www.netflixparty.com/.
Step 4) Log into your Netflix account on Chrome.
Step 5) Check your email 15 minutes before the scheduled start time for the link to the party. While logged into your Netflix click on the emailed link which will take you to the Netflix Party. Then click the Netflix Party browser button (aka button in your browser that says “NP”).

Scavenger Hunt
Here are the rules and what is planned so join in on the fun. Also, everyone can vote on their favorites so if you do not join in on the fun by doing the scavenger hunt you can help DemiCon choose the fan favorites.
***MANDATORY PHOTO*** Team selfie with #[team name] to participate (or team photo collage if your team isn’t all at the same location). Remember: at least one of your team members needs to be in the photo with the listed item. Vote on your favorite clue pictures by clicking on a ‘like/love/laugh’ option on the submitted clue picture! Voting will end Sunday at 1:00pm so we can tally the votes and announce the winners during virtual closing ceremonies on Sunday. Each post MUST contain #[your team name] AND #[clue number], AND #DemiCon31.
This year’s virtual scavenger hunt takes place the Saturday of DemiCon only, starting at 8 am and ending at 11:59 pm. To participate, one person in your group will need a Facebook account to join in on the fun and a smart phone that takes pictures. The Virtual Scavenger Hunt official list will be posted on our Scavenger Hunt Facebook page at 8:00am Saturday morning. Vote on your favorite clue pictures by clicking on a ‘like/love/laugh’ option on the submitted clue image! Voting will end at 1:00pm on Sunday so we can tally the votes.
Rules:
- Go to www.facebook.com/groups/DemiConHunt/ and become part of the group. You will be added by a member of DemiCon. Please remember we need sleep too, so don’t expect to get added at 2:00 in the morning. Nothing happens before our morning coffee!
- Come up with an awesome team name for your group. Take a selfie picture, an ‘usie’ (group selfie) of your whole team, or a photo collage of your teammates if they are not all at the same location. Upload that picture with your #[TeamName] on the Scavenger Hunt Facebook page: www.facebook.com/groups/DemiConHunt/
- The clue list will be posted at 8:00am the Saturday morning of DemiCon on the Scavenger Hunt Facebook page.
- Take pictures with a smart phone on Saturday. At least one of the team members must be in each picture with each clue answer. Can be a different team member or more than one.
- Upload pictures online at www.facebook.com/groups/DemiConHunt/
- Put your team’s name and clue number with your pictures when uploading and use #DemiCon31 to share. Example – Put in description: #TeamZ #2 #DemiCon31.
- Keep pictures PG. This Facebook group is open to all. Those photos that are not, will be removed from the group page.
- All pictures MUST be uploaded by 11:59 pm Saturday night.
At the virtual closing ceremonies, the teams who completed the Scavenger Hunt will be named as new Legion of DemiCon members. The most ‘liked/loved/laughed’ photos will be named as Legion of DemiCon Favorites. Have fun!

Color the character(s) of choice and cut out along the dotted lines. Take the picture out on adventures in your house or on your exercise walks. Photos are a must and you should share them on social media with all of DemiCon. Please keep photos G and PG so all ages can enjoy the photos. When you share them tag them with #DemiCon31.

DemiCon 31 Memorial Wall

DemiCon 32: Super Manga Graphic Novels Comics Animation
We are already working on DemiCon 32 where we plan to be back with a bigger and better in-person convention than ever before. The convention will be the weekend of April 30-May 2, 2021 at the Holiday Inn Northwest. If you are interested in getting involved contact concom@demicon.org.
We are also opening up online registration for DemiCon 32 at the rate we normally charge during the previous year convention. Since there was no in-person DemiCon 31 these rates will be available online until end of day on May 31, 2020.
Remember, if you already purchased a membership for DemiCon 31 then we will automatically roll it to 2021 unless you ask us to to refund it.
