It’s been 30 years since DemiCon had it’s first convention in 1990. Many things have changed but a lot has stayed the same as that we are family. Come join the Des Moines Science Fiction Society as we enjoy a weekend of fun, learning, charity, and celebration. We will be celebrating the past with special events as well as contests through the weekend. So get your time traveling gear on and let’s have fun in the past, present and future!
Join us Friday of DemiCon 30 with FLASHBACKS of the past. We invite you to wear your “Classic” costumes and t-shirts/apparel that you have worn to past DemiCons or have the next generation wear a costume or two. Heck, many of us do not fit in those costumes from 20-ish years ago but many of the kids of fandom would with ease.
Hall Costume will have an special award for all these costumes called The Costume Time Traveler Award. Go to Hall Costume Contest page for details.
Costume/Cosplay Display and Timeline
CALLING ALL DEMICON COSTUMERS/COSPLAYERS! We are doing a display at DemiCon of costumes throughout the years and we need your help. On Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm DemiCon will have a display of costumes from each year of DemiCon. This is where you come in. Contact us if you want to participate. Here are the details.
Contact concom at firstname.lastname@example.org. Let us know which costume(s) you would like to display, the name of the costume, the year/DemiCon it was first wore, if the costume won any awards, the creator and wearer of said costume. Email this information to us. If you have a photo(s) please include. As there is limited space and wanting to hit each year we will let you know which one we would like to use physically. We also want as much of a mix of costumers/cosplayers as we can get. If one of your costumes is not selected to physically be here we will have the picture and information you sent placed on the costume timeline that will be up the entire weekend. Concom will contact you once we receive your email and later once we have everyone who wished to participate after the due date which is February 1, 2019.
Then on Saturday morning of the convention at 9 am bring your costume(s) to the lobby area near the fire place. If you have a body double, please bring the costume on said body double for display or we will have grid wall to hang the costumes on. Then at 5 pm that night you will come and pick up your costume. We will have a door dragon there from 10 am to 5 pm watching the costumes to make sure they are safe. We do suggest not to bring any small pieces that you are worried about walking off. We will have someone watching and the area blocked off but better safe then sorry. You can include a picture of the smaller items with the costume for display. Each costume will have information displayed.
Concom have been asked if the costume could have been worn at other conventions. That is fine but we want costumes that were shown at DemiCon first, so originals here and shown other places after. Any questions just email at the above email address. DemiCon has amazing costumers/cosplayers that we want to share 30 years of art for all to enjoy.
In regard to the costume timeline, if you don’t want to display your costume but still want to show off your work, just send in the information above with the picture and mark it for the timeline. We will add you to the paper version of the Costume Timeline.
There is a lot of history here and we hope you will participate to make it even better.
Memory Book: We are working on a memory book of people’s stories of DemiCon. We invite you to write your story up and email it to email@example.com. We will add it to a book that people will be able to read and remember. We will also have paper available at the convention if you want to add your story or pictures to the book. Think of it as a class reunion book.
Timeline is Back: We will have the DemiCon Timeline up again with the last five years added.
Costume Timeline: If you have a picture of a costume you had wore at DemiCon and would like to add to this timeline please send a digital copy to firstname.lastname@example.org. Tell us your name, the name of the costume, who is in/wore the costume, the year worn and if it had won any awards. Due date is February 1, 2019 but the sooner you get it in, the easier it will be to create the timeline.
Memorial Scrap Book: DemiCon has created a book of fandom of those who have gone before us. We invite you to look at and enjoy remembering our fellow fans.
