Behind The Mask
There are so many actions that happen
behind the scenes for a DemiCon to happen. First off Des Moines Science
Fiction Society, who hosts this great event, has 3 members step forward
to be the head committee for each DemiCon. This ConCom then recruits
people to be department heads for areas of the convention. Then those
department heads recruit more people to help out. As you can see this is
a totally science fiction fan run convention. Everyone is a volunteer
and does it because they love conventions. DemiCon has been compared to a
huge family reunion where all are welcome.
We invite you to take a look behind the masks of some of our volunteers
as well as our guests. You all are heroes that help make DemiCon happen
by attending and if you wish to help behind the scenes earning your own
super hero mask, please let us know at concom@demicon.org.

“It
is entirely my mother’s fault that I’m a fan and involved in fandom.
When I was but a wee child she brought me along to DAGOBAH (Davenport
Area Gathering of Books and Humanoids) meetings, ICON, DemiCon, and many
Star Trek conventions.
Now
that I’m older I’ve made a very conscious decision to give back to this
wonderful community so that future young fans will have all of the same
magical opportunities that I had.”

Do You Have What It Takes To Be A Hero?
DemiCon can't survive without it's volunteers. Everyone on staff spends
hundreds if not thousands of hours volunteering their time to make this
convention happen, but during the convention we need just a little
help. Being a volunteer, even for just an hour, means so much to us.
Prize baskets are returning once again, and we've got some pretty good
prizes in the works. Come check out the volunteer table and find out all
about it. Just one hour of your time gets you a chance to win a
Prize Basket. The more time slots you volunteer for, the more chances
you get to win one of the prizes.
So be a hero, volunteer early and volunteer often!!

involving time travel. She regularly attends several regional
conventions in addition to her involvement in DemiCon and the Des Moines
Science Fiction Society. Outside of DemiCon, she can be seen
manning the phones each year with the Universal Network of Iowa
Timelords to raise money for Iowa Public Television. She enjoys
reading, writing, geeky conversation, costuming, karaoke, and dabbles in

Thank You
From all of us on the convention
committee, we would like to thank you all for your support. We volunteer
our time to make this convention happen because we enjoy it and love
what the convention represents. Most of us on staff have been doing this
for as long as we can remember, and some of us are just getting
started. We realize there will be bumps in the road, and hurdles to
overcome as the convention moves forward. We do our best to make this
convention the best experience possible for all those who attend, but we
also understand that we can't please everyone all the time.
Feedback is important to us. We can't know we're doing something
wrong or not living up to expectations if we don't know about it. If you
see something that needs changing, or have a suggestion for
improvement, please let someone on staff know so we can try and
improve your convention experience.
