Art Show - How the Art Show Works
DemiCon 16: July 29-31, 2005
The DemiCon art show is open to all interested artists, both professional and amateur.
The art show allows artists to share their work with our attendees. We promote Fantasy
& Sci-Fi art by helping artists to display and sell their work.
In the Art Show Main Display area we show original works of art, 3-dimensional art, and
single copies of prints of original art. Unless an art piece is marked "NFS - Not For Sale",
our convention attendees may bid on, or buy via quick sale, any pieces in this area.
Attendees will also be able to vote for the show's best amateur artist, professional artist,
amateur art piece, and professional piece of art.
The Print Shop area will contain pieces for immediate sale. Pieces in Print Shop are usually
prints or reproductions of published artwork (book covers or magazine illustrations).
The Artist Workspace is open to attending artists who wish to work at the convention, perform
demonstrations, create works of art to auction for charity, share ideas with other artists and
anything else that they wish to do. This will be located in Art Show itself where there is plenty
of natural light for the artists to work with. There will also be an Art Show tour, where con-goers and
attending artists can stroll through the art show together, and talk about specific pieces or
art in general.
Attendees will be able to and make quick sale purchases and to bid on pieces in the Display area
and purchase print shop pieces during the normal art show hours. These hours will be posted here
when they are established.
The art auction will be held on Saturday .
Convention attendees will pay for and pick up any art they purchase from the Display Area or from
the Auction on Sunday from 10AM to 12PM. Artists check out on Sunday from 12PM to 2PM.
Like many sci-fi & fantasy convention art shows, DemiCon's show is run entirely by volunteer workers.
All Con-goers who visit the art show are asked (politely, of course!) to check their bags and drinks with
the volunteer stationed at the art show's "main table" in order to protect the artists work. Volunteers
also help hang and organize the displayed artwork.
GENERAL SALES INFORMATION
- Print Shop sales are handled on a cash-and-carry basis.
- All Main Display area pieces with two or more bids, as well as prize-winning
art (excluding Not For Sale items), will go to voice auction on
Saturday evening. Pieces are then sold to the highest bidder.
- If a quick sale price is available for a display area work of art, a
buyer may purchase that piece immediately for that price, but only if the
piece has received no bids. Artwork that has received even one bid is not
sold via quick sale. Unsold art can also be purchased at the
quick sale price on Sunday.
- Although an art piece receiving no bids may be purchased for the quick
sale price at any time, no art will be removed from the Main Display
area before the auction Saturday night. Buyers may pick up their quick
sale purchases on Sunday. If the buyer will not be attending the
Convention on Sunday, they can pick up purchases after the auction Saturday
night, if such arrangements have been made in advance with the art show
department head.
